After graduating from the University of Calcutta, he completed his postgraduate training in the UK before spending three years at the Brain Tumour Research Laboratory at the Hospital for Sick Children, University of Toronto, where he pursued a fellowship in Neurooncology and Paediatric Neurosurgery.

Dr Ray has a wealth of expertise in comprehensive brain tumour management, neurosurgery in children, and spinal surgery. He has worked as a consultant neurosurgeon at the Alder Hey Children’s Hospital and The Walton Centre for Neurology and Neurosurgery in Liverpool, UK before returning to India. Dr Ray is passionate about developing new technologies and has conducted pioneering research in brain tumour diagnosis and prognostication. In 2013, while working at Apollo Hospitals Research and Education Foundation, he initiated work on liquid biopsies, which allows the diagnosis of brain tumours without surgery, through a simple blood test. This research has been widely published and presented at several international conferences, for which he was invited to speak. The ‘Liquid Biopsy Technology’ was named among the MIT Reviews Top Technology of the year in 2015.

Currently, Dr Ray has founded a start-up called Exsegen Research, which focuses on discovering innovative ways to diagnose and treat brain cancer, with the goal of reducing the pain and suffering not only of disease but also of its treatment. His commitment to advancing medical knowledge and technology has made him a respected leader in the field of neurosurgery.
